Taster’s Review:

I’m really liking this blend!

After reading through the ingredients, I was a little worried about the combination of hibiscus and Oolong tea, I worried that the somewhat thick, syrupy nature of the hibiscus might interfere with the lovely texture of the Oolong, but, that didn’t happen here.  The hibiscus seems to do very little in this blend – thankfully – except for adding some color and perhaps a little tartness.

But the tartness in this case is quite welcome, because it compliments the tangy citrus flavors so well.  Even though there are several different components to this tea that contribute a citrus flavor, the dominant flavor is that of pink grapefruit. It is tart yet sweet and quite juicy tasting.

At first, I didn’t taste much of the eucalyptus in this, but as I continue to sip, I notice it slightly more.  It is still rather subtle.  It does add some definition to the grapefruit flavor, but, this definitely doesn’t taste like eucalyptus.  It tastes like grapefruit!

The Oolong flavor, by comparison, is a little muted.  Ordinarily, I might find fault with that, however, this is so remarkably tasty that its difficult to complain about the lack of Oolong taste.  This is definitely more of a tea for grapefruit lovers than it is for Oolong lovers, although Oolong lovers might find this a welcome departure from the usual.

Overall, I really enjoyed this cup.  Such a pleasant flavor that I find to be quite invigorating.  It has a very pleasing natural sweetness to it, so little to no additional sweetener is required, which is perfect for those of us who are trying to cut back on the sugar intake!  A great tea for an afternoon out with girlfriends!

Citrus Appeal from Talbott Teas

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Green

Where to Buy:  Talbott Teas

Product Description:

All natural premium ingredients: Full leaf Japanese Sencha green tea, hibiscus, grapefruit peel, pineapple pieces, calendula petals, lemon and natural grapefruit flavor.

Taster’s Review:

When I first approached this tea, I didn’t have high expectations.  To be honest, I was like, “Oh, another citrus tea.”  But this tea blows me away!  It is really delicious.

The flavor of the Japanese Sencha is gentle and unassuming, with a pleasing buttery backnote.  Not grassy, not vegetative, just soft and fresh-tasting tea.  The green tea base allows the flavors of this tea to become the main focus while still maintaining its presence in the cup.

There is such a unique and delicious combination of flavors.  All at once, I can taste the flavors of grapefruit, lemon and pineapple swirling on my palate.  I can taste the hibiscus, but it is so very gentle that if I were not focusing intently on trying to pinpoint the various flavor notes, I think I probably would miss the hibiscus.  Probably the place where the hibiscus is most prominent would be in the color of the tea – because it brewed up to a pretty – albeit unusual – pink-ish green color.

I think what I like best about this particular tea is the grapefruit!  For those of you familiar with my tea reviews in the past, you know about how I’ve been searching for the ideal grapefruit green tea, and even though this one has other flavors in it, I do believe I have FOUND my grapefruit green!  I think it is the presence of these other flavors that makes the grapefruit flavor so incredibly delicious for me.

This is THE BEST grapefruit green tea that I’ve tasted, and I think that may even go for the grapefruit green tea that started me on this quest!  This is YUM!

Pai Mu Tan Grapefruit Tea from Upton Tea

Tea Type: White Tea

Where To Buy: Upton Tea Imports

Product Description: A premium Pai Mu Tan white tea, flavored with the taste of grapefruit.

Tasters Review:

Pai Mu Tan Grapefruit from Upton has a very gentle aroma.  It’s gentle in every way, actually!  The smell of it is a more floral-white tea with a hint of grapefruit.

As for the taste the grapefruit is subtle. There isn’t a lot there but what is there is lovely!  Grapefruit goes well with white tea – at least I think it does!

This is very pleasant.  I would suggest this for a nice calm-down or end to the day or if you are stressed – it’s comforting and relaxing! A nicely flavored white tea from Upton!

Kingston Cooler from Eteaket

Leaf Type:  Green

Where to Buy:  This tea is currently available to the Eteaket Cafe customers only

Company Description:

Our Kingston Cooler tea is an exotic taste of the Caribbean. Discover the hidden treasure of grapefruit and pepper hidden in this blend of green and black tea. It’s topped off with lemon grass, orange peel and carrot peel. Great served hot or cold.

Taster’s Review:

When I went to the Eteaket website to learn more about this tea before writing about it, I was unable to locate this tea anywhere!  I emailed them and I was very pleased to see how promptly and courteously they responded to me.  They informed me that Kingston Cooler is one of their “secret” tea blends that they offer to their cafe customers.

I realize I’m blowing the lid off of their “secret” here, but, this tea is just too good to keep a secret!  This tea has a lusciously sweet and fruity taste that I really like.  The citrus flavors are so bright and sunny that this tea even manages to shed some sunshine into this rather dreary autumn day.  Not that I dislike autumn – nothing could be further from the truth – but, I sometimes find myself missing the sunshine too.

But I don’t miss the sun quite so much as I sip this tea!  The flavor is so clean and crisp.  The light-bodied green tea is the perfect base for the grapefruit, orange and lemon flavors here.  It tastes fresh and has a bit of vegetative flavor, no bitterness and very little astringency.

This tea also has a very intriguing peppery note that emerges by about mid-cup.  It adds a unique dimension of flavor and interesting contrast to the sweetness of the citrus fruit.

This tea is excellent as a hot tea, but as the name of the tea implies, this tea is great chilled too.  Very refreshing with just the right of sweetness.  It is juicy without tasting like an overly sweet soft drink.  YUM!

Hopefully Eteaket will decide to start offering this tea online.  In the meantime, if you happen to be in Edinburgh… I recommend you stop by their boutique and try this tea!

Tasters Review:

This is my first time trying Lahloo and I am pretty excited.  I never take for granted a new tea…whether it’s new to the market or just new to me!

The smells of this is a little nutty and a little blossomy.

I didn’t really pick up on the apricot notes hinted at in the description but I did the grapefruit and it was an awesome natural flavor.  I also picked up on the honey hints, too, and they were lovely!

All-in-All I like this Oolong!  Looking forward to trying more offerings from Lahloo!

White Vanilla Grapefruit from Harney & Sons

Leaf Type: White

Where To Buy: Harney & Sons

Company Description:

White teas enriched by vanilla and brightened by grapefruit bring forth the cleansing White Vanilla Grapefruit tea. Each refreshing brew reveals light and smooth citrus tones. The indulgent vanilla aroma, pleasantly surprising and suggestive of chocolate, engulfs the white tea in its sweet embrace. The whimsical fusion of white teas, vanilla, and fresh citrus makes for a complex yet wonderful equation.

Taster Review:

Recently I tried Harney & Sons White Vanilla Grapefruit Tea.  I have heard mixed reviews on it and wanted to try it out for myself.  I LOVE Grapefruit!  I’m not a vanilla freak but am getting to where I appreciate it more when done right – in a tea, that is.  I generally enjoy white teas and flavored whites.  So, I figured I would at least find this one acceptable.

But, I will tell you – if was more than acceptable in my book!  I actually really liked it.  The scent is pretty and delicate yet refreshing. It infuses darker than I anticipated for it being a white.

I could smell and taste both the vanilla AND the grapefruit.  This is a good flavored white if you don’t mind grapefruit or if you are one of those people who try anything with vanilla in it.  I really did find the grapefruit and vanilla partnership to be a winning combination.

You’ve heard the saying…”You don’t know unless you try”…and I’m glad that Harney and Sons did.
